Halloween Weekend!

My best friend came over on Halloween night to help me around the house since Chance went down to our property for opening weekend and we were able to get a LOT done...probably because we switched our rollers to the fluffy kind.

A few days ago, I mentioned it was taking us a really long time to paint because the HD sales guy told us to get the "smooth" rollers, well we went back up there and I asked someone else and he said "Absolutely not, get the fluffy rollers". Oh my goodness, what a world of difference. Which I should've known but I trusted the first guy.

Note to self: Get multiple sales worker opinions before purchasing an item if you aren't sure!

Anyways, moving on....the living room, hallway to the guest, and hallway to the master are now painted. Whew that took long enough! So much for knocking it all out in one day...HA!

We were moving along so fast we needed to take a break and treat ourselves, so we made homemade pizza and drank a little vino...

We had the blinds open when it was still still light out and didn't have very many lights on in the house and it got dark really fast and the first trick-or-treater rang the doorbell and I ran over there with my witches cauldron to pass out some candy. I crack the door because Rylee was inside and he takes the candy and then peaks around me into the house and says "Your house is really creepy"....haha ok thanks kid! I guess it was time to turn on the lights. We handed out some more candy and then headed to the garage to paint the master bedroom dresser. We opened the garage so we didn't suffocate from the paint smell and to pass out more candy to kids. A bunch of neighbors stopped by to introduce themselves and it was really nice...except that they got a glance into our filthy garage!

The first coat of paint was called "America's Cup Navy".....Navy Blue my A$$! It was not navy blue...but it does look nice in the Guest Bathroom so I'm using it to paint the bathroom and possibly an accent wall for one of the guest rooms. So I do what I always do and revert back to good 'ole Pinterest. I searched "the perfect navy blue"...and found one called Rich Navy that was so dark it looked almost black. This was it! Pinterest would never let me down...right?!

So we went back to the store and bought Rich Navy, and here is that coat...still not what I want...Pinterest FAIL! So I took the Rich Navy container back to HD and they added 5 ounces of black to it to darken it.

Here are the 3 swatches it took to get this dresser perfect...
America's Cup Navy (Glidden) - will now be used in the guest part of the house
Rich Navy (Glidden) - seemed to be darker but I would call it more of a cobalt blue (pic of dresser above)
Rich Navy + 5 ounces of black = Amalfi Navy (Ralph Lauren)

Saturday afternoon I headed to my parents to hang out with everyone. We did some clothes shopping and went to dinner on the lake, then Stace and I get this great idea to go to Home Goods and Target...and before you know it my entire car was full to the top. I even had to put both of the back rows down and Rylee had to ride back home with me in the passenger seat. So not safe I know, bad mom of the year award for me!
I bought all new bedding, shower curtain for guest bath, mercury glass cookie jar (that won't have cookies in it, I actually don't like the idea of cookie jars, not sure why just never have, so this one is just for looks), a huge basket to sit by the console table to cover a cord, a cute jar of soap for the guest bath (that is currently MIA. Wondering if maybe it rolled out of the bag and under my seat...note to self - check car whenever I have a chance!), temporary wallpaper for the TV nook in the living and the dresser, a new desk and chair for the study, curtains for the study and one of the guest bedrooms and a gold side table for either the study or the guest bedroom.

This weekends plans:
Chance and I are going to sand the dresser one more time, we used to low of a grit (a 60 I believe) and put lines it...it's a learning process and we had no idea what to use! It's been really fun learning all of these "first time home buyer fails" with him though :)

So after we sand it with a higher grit (150) and try to smooth out the pits we created in the wood, I will put at least one or two more coats, if needed, on there. We have the knobs so once it drys I will attach those and post the reveal pics!

We are also going to start working on the shelving units for the study, guest bath and master bath....pics to come on that as well!

Stay tuned!
