Working at Dr Pepper has really been a blast, but the best part is that Dr Pepper is such a large company that we are able to give back to the community in grand ways!
We adopted this school for the day and helped out as much as possible. They had an overgrown garden area AKA the jungle. The teachers don't receive much since this is a low income school and they don't have a PTA to rely on. We wanted to come in and give the staff and students something they never would expect. Chick-fil-a donated sandwhiches, chips, a cookie and a coupon to all staff. The teachers went crazy and even one said, "In 20 years here at this school we have never had Chick-fil-a". So we thought that was pretty awesome!
During the day the garden team really stepped it up and kicked butt out there in the heat. I was outside for about 10 minutes and after getting so hot I thought it would be best for me to help out with the inside team ;)
The inside team had put together goody bags for all staff members. A few days before me and two of my co-workers went shopping at Sam's and Walmart and got them great things. The bags had kleenex's, anti-bacterial wipes, an apple (of course), markers, pens, glue sticks, candy bar, granola bar, etc....the bags were packed. After school got out all the teachers came into the cafeteria and saw their goody bags, they were so excited but little did they know that was just the beginning! We had every staff members name in a jar and as they were drawn that person could come up to the board and pick one prize. We had items from Starbucks & iTunes gift cards, Dallas Cowboys tickets, Shakespeare in the park tickets, Maggiano gift cards, XBOX games, even an XBOX game with a KINECT! These teachers were so appreciative of every little thing we did for them. The teacher that picked the XBOX and KINECT is so devoted to her students and this school that she left it up there for her students to play with since she runs the after school program. I thought this was really cool and just goes to show the kinds of educators we have out there. They are educating the children that will make our future, so get out there and give back because they don't get much and they aren't paid a whole lot. Doctors save lives, but teachers create our future so an increase in pay wouldn't hurt either ;)
After all the gifts were handed out the teachers were allowed to go down this table we had set up of markers, crayons, glitter, constructions paper, just mounds of stuff for kids, classrooms and the teachers themselves (coffee cups, pens, notepads) I mean the list really does go on and on.
If this is the kind of thing this company does for the community then this is the company I want to be working for. I am proud to say I work for Dr Pepper Snapple!
The teachers lounge with Chick-fil-a!
While we were setting up the goody bags the kids were having band practice. It was really cute.
I forgot to mention that this is the school my boss Jaxie went to when she was younger!
